Hone Your Crap Detector

To save money, you must learn to separate the truth from the BS. My Uncle Jim taught me that one of the keys to wealth is filtering out the garbage spewed by other people. He firmly believed a strong crap detector keeps you on the road to FU Money. Bad ideas come at you from everywhere: your friends, marketing emails, cable news, your cousin Vinnie. Take a breath before you open your wallet for anything from an investment opportunity to a latte. If you are like me, most of your dumbass mistakes are due to decisions made in a hurry. Always pause; you have more time to decide than you think.

(My youngest brother modeling an early version of the crap detector with a little help from me.)
